Nikon D3300
Probably the best low price DSLR on the market, its all-round capabilities beat the closest competition by quite a bit. Whether you looking for a cheap DSLR for pictures or video this is the best one for a cheap price. The video quality is okay as long as you plug in an external microphone which the closest competition, the Cannon T5, does not allow. Neither of the two have a fold able LCD screen. The 24.1 Mp sensor is also great for simple photography and Milky Way pictures. However, if you leave the shutter open for more than 5 minutes, you will get some noise that you would not see on a higher end camera. The two other faults I've noticed is its lack of HDR capabilities, which is not so bad, it just requires more time from the user to set each picture; and that the ISO settings are not very customizable compared to other high end models. Overall a great entry level camera.

Cannon T5i
The t5i is generally considered the best consumer DSLR for video production, even with the new t6i coming out. The t5i still beats it just because of how much cheaper it is, running at about 600$. In general, Nikons tend to be better for photography then Cannons while Cannon is better with video. All that said, the t5i is still a decent camera for photography, but if you are strictly a photographer I would suggest going with a Nikon. The t5i is an all-around camera for video; from the great quality, to the customizable ISO and the great auto focus. I know most of you will use manual focus, but if you are in a point and shoot situation the focus will certainty get the job done. Plus, the fold-out LCD screen is definitely a huge bonus. The external microphone capabilities are great, since you can attach basically any mic using the XLR port.
